bye Cambodia

I left Cambodia on Thursday- missing training, trainees and friends already. But longing to see Denzil and the kids after 2 weeks!

The floods are still bad, seen from above, right East of Phnom Penh:

Day 10 in Phnom Penh

No training today! But a series of meetings to see how we can make our programmes sustainable and reach more people...
On the way back from the first meeting, we drove along the Mekong River- it is almost at the same level of the street.

more training

2 half days of training (yesterday and today) with the year 1 students at Enfants du Mekong. They got their first allowance this month, so really useful !! Crammed one meeting and a nice lunch in between and I changed hotel - much nicer and near the EdM centre- but far from the city centre and not much around. Nice to chat with the same waitresses as in March.

back to civilisation: CCTV

mmm not sure about the Khmer channels
Karaoke is a BIG thing here
the ultimate: Bollywood film subtitled in Chinese... okay, I am a bit tired tonight...

Field trip

Visit of Sao Sary Foundation today- local NGO in Kampong Speu who is implementing financial literacy in their livelihood programmes. Kampong Speu is at 50 km from Phnom Penh and one of the poorest provinces in Cambodia. The Foundation targets children victims of abuse and trafficking. Families without income and they take debt after debt ... at 30% daily interest (you read well...)- at this rate, this is just slavery.

interesting choice of words

Back to Phnom Penh after 1 hour 1/2 in a mini-van with 25 passengers + driver + the guy calling for more passengers to get in... gives me idea on better utilising my car once back home...

another day in Phnom Penh

Today was the last day of the level 1 training the trainers- always a very busy day, time to wrap up, make sure participants have a solid understanding of key financial education elements and are ready to apply their knowledge to themselves and transfer it to their clients. A nice challenge... Tomorrow- no training! (That was the 6th day in a row)- but visit of a NGO out of Phnom Penh.

Training the trainers day 1

3rd day in Phnom Penh. Today the training the trainers level 1 was starting - 14 NGO workers attend.
Big thunderstorm at the end of the day. Phnom Penh streets were partly flooded... And the road to Siem Reap is cut again and Siem Reap apparently under more than one meter of water.
