Changing Phnom Penh

No training this weekend, just a few meetings so I took a few pictures on the way:
The dried Boeung Kak Lake from my hotel bedroom (green patch in middle of picture). Sadly famous for the violent evictions of people living on its shores a few years ago, it is now all dry and "redeveloped": a big road crosses it. If you have good eyes, you can also spot a mosque - all white- left of the crane, behind Calmette Hospital.

the new Phnom Penh, catching up with consumer society, at least in appearance.

spot the size of the cars...

supermarkets, unknown a few years ago

with increasing traffic and big cars (there are either motorbikes or huge cars- hardly anything in between), petrol stations are becoming ubiquitous

construction, construction...

the tuk-tuk seems from another age among all these huge 4-wheel drives. But the tuk-tuk driver has a smart phone...

mmm, can you see the problem?

the "dollar store"... a new face of Phnom Penh along with numerous trendy restaurants and shops targeting the middle class
Inside the coffee shop, instead of the usual Khmer coffee with condensed milk, I was served an American style coffee with fresh milk and had to choose the size of the cup - hated that. Why do they have to copycat US coffee place chains?
