1 July in Hong Kong

3rd public holiday since I arrived in Asia (and 2nd in HK). Today, Hongkongers "celebrate" the retrocession to China with a huge march to demand more democracy. The typhoon signal 3 did not deter protesters. Even for Hong Kong standards, the crowd was substantial - policemen everywhere and several MTR exits closed at Central.

the march - Hennessy Rd in Wanchai

Johnston Rd is empty apart from a few taxis
The day started with a meeting in Harbour Centre (TST) then observing a training in Wanchai so I took the Star Ferry to commute. The sea was a bit rough, but the view remains amazing. I added more photos to my already big collection of pictures of the Harbour... first ones were in 1996 when Denzil and I crossed the Harbour at night a few hours after landing in HK. The crossing has been since shortened by more land reclamations.

Inside nothing has changed- even the costume of the staff on board.

the Star Ferry (here the Central-Wanchai) fascinates tourists too.
